The AGV K-3 SV is the second generation of the popular K-3 created by AGV. Created with some of the best materials on the market, the AGV K3 SV provides the rider with comfort, fantastic levels of ventilation and multiple different colours and designs to choose from. It's exactly the same helmet as the K3 however the K3 SV also has a built in sun visor, which is perfect for those sunny days.

Safety

Like most good quality, helmets the AGV K-3 SV has gained a 4 star rating in the SHARP rating test, proving just how safe this helmet is to wear. It has also been ECE 22.05 approved. The outer shell of the helmet is made of high resistant thermoplastic resin, which many modern high end helmets, such as the Shark S900, are made up of. This means it isn't the lightest helmet on the market, however it's not an issue you'll notice when you're wearing it, in terms of comfort.

The AGV K-3 should provide the same, if not higher level of protection than other helmets which are more expensive. The K-3 certainly proves you don't need to spend a lot of money, to get a good quality helmet that will protect your head.

Ventilation

The AGV has multiple air vents to keep you well ventilated whilst you're riding. The roof vents feel extremely high quality, they're easy to snap open and close and allow a lot of air into the helmet. The chin vent, in particular, is pretty special. It not only functions well, but it also directs a large volume of air onto the riders face, something most helmets don't do.

This helmet provides some of the best ventilation that we've ever tested!  If you're looking for a helmet that provides a large amount of ventilation, this helmet is the perfect one for you!

Visor

Like most good quality helmets, it's easy to remove and reattach due to the quick release system. To remove the visor, simply pull the two tabs on each side of the helmet, and the visor should pop straight off.

The AGV K-3 SV visor is an optical class 1, non-scratch, anti-fog, poly-carbonate visor and comes with a Pinlock anti-fog insert as standard. It's pretty special! The aperture is nice and wide, so you'll have a good view of the road ahead too.

The K3 comes with an anti-fog pinlock insert, so if you're a fan of using pinlocks, you can use one with this helmet. Furthermore, the motorbike helmet also comes with a sun visor, which you can easily switch to if the sun begins to glare into your vision. It opens by using a lever behind the left hand side visor pivot, so it's easy to use. The inner visor lever is much easier to drop than to raise, which can be a pain if you quickly want it out of your way. The sun visor is anti-scratch, however it's not anti-fog so it may steam up if you're not careful. You need to be aware that while the main clear visor is fog resistant the sun visor isn't, so be careful!

There's a small slider in the centre bottom of the visor which can open the visor a little to allow some air to get in this is called 'City mode' and it's ideal for demisting if you're riding slowly.

Wind Noise

Unfortunately, the AGV K-3 SV is a fairly noisy helmet, possibly due to the amount of ventilation that it provides. This ultimately means that there are more areas to catch air, which creates turbulence and turbulence means noise! The wind noise isn't particularly noticeable until around 50 mph so if you're after a quiet helmet, this probably isn't the one for you.

That said, if you don't mind wearing earplugs, you shouldn't have any issues with this helmet.

Appearance and Comfort

The inner lining of the helmet is soft and comfy, without giving any pressure points or areas of discomfort. As with most modern helmets on the market today, the inner lining is fully removable and washable, once you've given it a good clean, you need to snap it back into place and it won't move from there.

The lining also comes with a sanitising treatment within them, so it'll keep the helmet as hygienic as possible. If you're a glasses wearer, the helmet even has grooves cut into the fabric to allow room for your glasses to fit in without being uncomfortable.

Compared to other helmets brands and models, the AGV K3 SV comes in a range of different colours and patterns so if you're looking for a helmet that looks cool, check out the K3. You can also find Rossi, Guy Martin, Simoncelli etc replicas if you're interested in those graphics too. The smooth, streamlined helmet shape not only looks good, but it also helps head toss and noise.

All motorcyclists know that getting a helmet which fits is essential. That's why the AGV K-3 SV comes in two different shell sizes, four different EPS liners and has a size range of XS-XXL. AGV also offer a MS and ML fit to offer a bit more assurance that you'll get a size that fits just right.

Conclusion

If you're not too bothered about wind noise or you're happy to wear earplugs, this helmet is perfect. It comes with a high SHARP rating and it's packed with some great features every biker will enjoy. AGV create great quality helmets and the K-3 SV is no exception. While it's an entry level helmet, priced at £100-200, it certainly doesn't lack quality or practicality.
